If you have kids at home, their schoolwork and artwork invariably get mixed up in your own paperwork.  Or at least that’s what I’ve noticed in clients’ homes.  My tip for both is to have one large, 66qt or so bin, each for schoolwork and artwork.  As the year progresses, put your favorites into each bin.  As it gets full, dump it out, remove some of the now less precious papers that were put into the bin earlier in the year and repeat as it gets full again.  Ideally you’ll only have a box or two of each to give your child when they graduate high school.  No one needs the complete, unedited works unless your school teacher has specifically asked you to save them.

Today, let’s think about about the style and decor of your office.  I don’t know about you, but having a pulled together, calming place in which to do my work makes it that much more enjoyable.  We aren’t talking a complete remodel of your office, but maybe a few items that would give it a professional, stylish look.  Think a matching stapler and pencil holder with a few plants and a piece of art you like, or a fresh coat of paint for the walls.

Simplified 365: The Office - Day 28: Label Makers

Label makers are indispensable.  I honestly don’t know why I waited until the 4th month of this journey to mention them. If you’ve had a hard time communicating with family members where exactly things go in the house, this is your tool. The same premise can be be accomplished with a Sharpie, tape and some notecards.  Regardless, labeling things can help everyone keep everything neatly organized. 

In the office specifically, I like using the label maker to make file folder labels.  This gives them all a uniform look.
