Today we’re going to lessen the amount of paper flowing into your house. The less that comes in, the less you have to manage and that's the easiest way to keep things under control. To do that, let’s head over to the Data & Marketing Association’s website, DMA Choice, where you can control what arrives in your mailbox. This is seriously one of the best things you can do to control paper clutter. Their website allows you to manage:
- Credit card offers
- Magazine offers
- Donation requests
- Bank offers
- Retail promotions
Once you’ve managed these mailings for yourself, you can also manage them for people in your care, as well as for the deceased.
There are options to opt out entirely for each of those categories, which should reduce your marketing mail by about 80%. If you purchase an item from an online store after you’ve opted out, you will most likely receive a catalogue from that company in the future, but going forward, the overall amount should be lessened.
If credit card offers are the bane of your existence, opting out of them will save a lot of hassle (and paper!). You can opt out for 5 years by using the online option, or permanently if you choose the mail-in option. I always just do the 5 years online because it’s easier.
Tomorrow we’ll be stopping the influx of emails. See you then!
