Yesterday we thought about what our ideal laundry plan would be. Today, we’re going to take a break from planning and jump in and do some decluttering. This might seem like a detour from working on the bedroom, but I promise you it’s not. Laundry is one of the main culprits I see contributing to a messy, chaotic bedroom.
So set that timer for 20 minutes and alet’s head to your laundry room. I want you to grab a trash bag and go through each drawer and cupboard, grabbing out anything that is clearly trash or recycling. You can sort them later. Once you’ve done that, I’d like you to grab another bag for donate/storage. For the remainder of this month, I’d like you to only have one laundry detergent, one fabric softener and one bleach visible. For bonus points, swap your dryer sheets for wool balls - they have zero chemicals on them and are one less thing to worry about restocking; they are good for 1000+ dryer cycles. For even more bonus points, consider swapping out to plant based, free & clear style detergents and softeners. I personally use 7th Generation© brand as it is available at all major stores, is inexpensive and environmentally sound.
If you’re not willing to donate the excess laundry soap and you know you will use it up in the next 6 months, I’d like for you to put it in your garage or in a box on a high shelf in the laundry area. If you’re willing to let go of it, ask the neighbors if they could use any of it. The point is, we just want a calm, minimal laundry room to help facilitate doing laundry as quickly and simply as possible. The more products you have to chose from, the more frustrating it will be.
Finish discarding the trash and recycling and you’re done for the day. See you tomorrow for organizing.
